My new book LOOKING AT THE STARS is about to hit the shelves! And YOU could help me celebrate its launch by coming to my party!

The date is Wednesday 5th February.

The venue is Blackwells Book Shop in Oxford (click here to find it)

The time is 7-9pm.

I’m genuinely thrilled to be able to invite people to the launch party. The more the merrier, I think 🙂 And if any local press would like to come, we’d be delighted to see them!

If you’re interested, please leave me a message below with your name and I’ll add you to the guest list 🙂 If you need more information, leave me an email address too!

Looking at the Stars (Bodley Head) is the new novel by Jo Cotterill suitable for anyone aged 11+. It’s the story of Amina, a thirteen-year-old girl, and her family, who live in a country dominated by a tyrannical ruler. The family has had many of their liberties taken away, and Amina is particularly sad that she has been banned from attending school. When liberating forces arrive in the country, the family hopes things will finally improve. But much worse is to come, as neighbour is set against neighbour and no one is safe. To keep her own spirits up, as well as those of the people around her, Amina starts to tell stories: stories of imagination, hope, and the stars.  A talent she has previously been forced to hide becomes the greatest thing she has to offer when all is darkness around.

What if your homeland is no longer home?

What if your family can’t keep you safe?

What if the stars are not simply stars?

  1. Hi Jo, I’m the Librarian at Henry Box School in Witney. I’ve just been chatting to Lynne Cooper at Burford School and she says she is coming to your book launch. I’d love to come along as well and would bring my daughter also, would that be OK? Slightly cheeky I know, but is there any chance I could have a proof copy in advance?
    Thanks, Nicola

  2. Hi Jo,
I’m a member of the Oxford Children’s Book Society and my colleague Kathy Lamaire told us about this event. I’m the librarian at St Gregory the Great School in Cowley and would love to come if at all possible?
